CEB-5 Cello Banjo (5-string)

Gold Tone CEB-5 Gold Tone is now importing a "cello" banjo, having a huge, 14-inch pot.

The Cello Banjo is available as a 4-string or a 5-string. The 4-string, CEB-4 is intended to be tuned in 5ths, as is a cello (or a fiddle or viola, etc.), and would usually be played with a plectrum. We do not usually stock the CEB-4, but can special order one usually within days.

The 5-string, CEB-5, shown here can be tuned a number of ways. In the video below, it is played tuned an octave low, i.e., aDADE.

It does come with a hardshell case (fortunately, considering that 14-inch pot!).

MP3 Sound File Hear one of these banjos, or, if you prefer, Video see and hear one of these banjos (7mb). Well, OK, the video's contrast is screwed up, but you can get a feel for the size of the instrument, regardless...

Gold Tone CEB-5 back The CEB-5 is a maple instrument with a warm burst finish on the neck.           Gold Tone CEB-5 fingerboard The 16-fret, ebony fingerboard has a handsome Victorian-looking inlay pattern.
Gold Tone CEB-5 peghead The peghead is reminiscent of the "snake head" shape of early Gibson instruments, and has a very nice engraved inlay.           Gold Tone CEB-5 tuners The tuners are Gold Tone's new, high end planetaries.
Gold Tone CEB-5 dowel stick The 14-inch pot has a rolled brass tone ring for a deep, full sound.           Gold Tone CEB-5head It comes set up with high tension classical nylon strings, a Price-licensed, straight-pull tailpiece and a Renaissance brand head for great sound to match its classic looks!
