In its prototypical form (still shown on the Gold Tone website at this writing), the twin "5th" strings were tunnelled to the peghead (and the instrument had a bluegrassy "hearts and flowers" inlay). Apparently those twin strings would bind somewhat in the tunnel, so the example we have in stock has a "5th string" tuner for one of the pair, and the other is tunneled to the headstock. The inlay is now that of the OT-800).
The 11-inch pot is that of the OT-800, too, being a Tu-Ba-Phone tone ring and fitted with a bracket band.
Now, this is an unusual banjo. Each string is doubled, like those of a mandolin, yielding a total of ten strings.
