Mike's Student model was developed to provide an affordable banjo having the same great playability and sound as his higher end banjos. Originally, this meant using a cheaper, 1-piece maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and overlays, and store-bought dots and stars as inlays. Over time, material availabilities and costs have changed, so this one has a three-piece neck (as do his higher models), it's made of cherry (an option on his higher models), and has an ebony fingerboard and overlays! Still has store-bought dots and stars, though...

With a hardshell case, this 12-inch model is only $1000. Sold

	The Student in stock and shown is unusual, its being made of cherry.			The scooped ebony fingerboard has a simple MOP dot and Star inlay.
	The peghead is a Mike's classic shape, and has a simple star inlay in its ebony overlay.			Mike has used 5-Star planetary tuners on the cherry-necked banjo in stock.
	The 12-inch maple pot has a rolled brass tonering.			It's set up with a No-Knot tailpience and a Renaissance brand head and has the classic "Ramsey" sound.
