Used Custom Wildwood open back
This is a most unusual piece. The headstock looks like that of a Balladeer, but everything else is different! It is the only Wildwood I have ever seen with a neck made of Wenge and a shaped block tone rim also made of Wenge.
It's a striking piece, and has surprisingly good tone!
"Used," but in very good condition, this one off piece has a "Bump" case, and is only $1995.

The peghead looks like that of Wildwood's Balladeer model, but even here you'll note the unusual purple heart binding on the fingerboard.

The tuners are planetaries. Note the multi-laminate neck with maple and ebony flanking a purple heart center stripe. If you look closely, you'll also notice the maple underlayment beneath the peghead overlay and the fingerboard.

The predominantly wenge neck has gorgeous grain, with its colors nicely brought out by that purple heart stripe.

The ebony fingerboard is fully fretted, has a purple heart binding, and neat "curved diamond" MOP position markers.
|
 |
The block pot is wenge also, and has a maple rim cap and purple heart binding. The upper tier of bloks has been shaped to provide a tone rim.

It's currently set up with a Renaissance head and a Waverly-style tailpiece. The light spots are maple inset into the upper tier of the pot's blocks. I confess I have no idea why they are there!

The heel has an ebony overlay with maple underlayment. Note the grain of that wenge!

This banjo sounds great, plays easily, is a treat to look at if you like woods as much as I do, and it's an unusual piece to boot.
