2002 Martin HD-35
The HD-35 benefits not only from Martin's 1/4 inch top bracing (vs. 5/16 in the other dreadnoughts), but in this model, it has been scalloped. The D-35 tends to be a strong, balanced instrument, and the lighter bracing of the HD-model makes this guitar a really strong mid-range machine!
This one is in Excellent condition, with virtually no fret wear, and only a couple of marks on the pick guard to show that it has ever been used.
It comes with its Martin hardshell case, and is only $1999.

The solid spruce top has darkened with age, yet is in really good condition. Very clean, with only a few tiny marks. The "H" in the "HD" stands for "Herringbone," the charateristic marquetry binding used in "H" series Martins.

Of course, a hallmark of the -35 series is the 3-piece back, introduced in 1965, when the first Brazilian Rosewood crunch occured. Now, they're of Indian rosewood, but Martin has kept the 3-piece design.

The ebony fingerboard is bound (unlike those on most Martin models).

 |
The tuners are enclosed and permanently lubricated--the very first D-35s had ugly white buttons on Grover Rotomatic tuners. They got rid of those in a hurry!

 |
The mahogany neck has a satin finish which has been rubbed to s slight shine by its owner's playing it.

 |
The peghead has Martin's newer, foil, decal.

 |
To dress the HD-35 up a bit more than the D-35, Martin uses the HD-28-style marquetry to separate the back pieces (the D-35 has simple contrasting wood, rather than marquetry).
